Russian Helicopters announced on 27 October that it will build and equip a helicopter training centre for the land forces of Peru.

The training facility will be located in the city of Lima. The centre will enable training for Peru’s Mi-171SH helicopter pilots to be conducted in-country.

Construction will begin pending the completion of necessary formalities. A contractor has been selected for the construction, with all work to be supervised by Russian Helicopters and Rosoboronexport. The centre will be complete by the end of 2017.

Peru ordered 24 Mi-171SH helicopters under a contract signed in 2013.

Igor Chechikov, deputy CEO for aftersales service at Russian Helicopters, said: ‘The Peruvian market is very attractive to us. To strengthen our market position in this country, we volunteered to fund this very costly construction of the helicopter training centre, which was not provided by the offset project, so that we could provide our partners with better options for training of flight personnel in Peru.'
