US Navy gets 25th P-8A Poseidon
The US Navy has received its 25th P-8A Poseidon as part of the fourth Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) lot from Boeing. The aircraft took off from a Boeing facility in Seattle on 2 June.
The P-8A Poseidon, which is the first aircraft in the fourth LRIP lot, arrived at naval air station Patuxent River, Maryland after a five-hour ferry flight.
The aircraft will join the Air Test and Evaluation Squadron One to support operational test efforts. The fourth lot of LRIP is comprised of the final 13 aircraft to be built. Boeing will begin Full-Rate Production (FRP) in August, with the first FRP aircraft scheduled to be received by the navy in 2016.
The P-8A Poseidon fleet will be used by the navy for anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance training and operational missions.
