Shutdown impacts launch of second Italian PPA patrol vessel
As widely expected, the scheduled launch of the second-in-class PPA (Pattugliatori Polivalenti d’Altura) patrol vessel Francesco Morosini has slipped due to the COVID-19 pandemic and industrial restrictions in Italy.
The PPA vessels are intended to fulfill a wide range of naval functions and are being developed in three distinct variants around a modular hull form. Designated as PPA Light, Light+ or Full, ships will have equipment fitted depending on their intended role.
To date, seven PPA vessels have been ordered for the Italian Navy, with two more on option. It is thought that up to 16 could be eventually
