The Black Scorpion mini torpedo is currently undergoing a qualification phase ahead of introduction into the market, although officials from manufacturer Leonardo do not anticipate that this will be a prolonged process.

The Black Scorpion mini torpedo is intended to be a cost-effective solution launched from aircraft, surface units and sub-surface platforms for operations in the shallow littoral environment where larger systems would have difficulty gaining access, the company states.

Key features are an ability to operate in sea depths of 30-200m when launched in active mode, reaching speeds in excess of 15kt with a weight of less than 20kg.
