Pakistan bulks up with Romania-built corvettes
The Pakistan Navy (PN) is enhancing its maritime protection and strategic projection capabilities, having formally accepted and commissioned the first of two new Yarmook-class multirole corvettes in an official ceremony (pictured) on 14 February.
The vessel, PNS Yarmook, was built by the Romanian subsidiary of Damen Shipyards Group in Galati.
Damen signed a contract in June 2017 with Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence Production for the Yarmook-class corvettes. This followed an open, international tender procedure.
The vessels are based on Damen’s OPV 1900 design, although their 2,300t displacement indicates a similarity to the Damen OPV 2400 design. According
