Jury still out on future US Coast Guard icebreaker fleet
At a time when the US Coast Guard (USCG) is revamping its strategy for the Arctic, service leaders are moving forward with plans to buy a fleet of icebreaker vessels but are holding off on a final decision over the fleet mix.
During an 11 April defence writer's group breakfast, the outgoing USCG commandant ADM Paul Zukunft spoke with reporters about ongoing efforts to revamp the service's strategy and the dire need to field a fleet of vessels capable of navigating the icy waters.
