As delegates gather in Singapore for the upcoming IMDEX Asia exhibition, the issue of piracy and the development of anti-piracy technologies will be a strong focus of the event.

Southeast Asia has assumed the mantle as the world’s hotspot for piracy and crime at sea, with the unenviable distinction of the region accounting for more attacks than the rest of the world combined last year.

Precise figures may vary according to the body issuing them, but however the statistics are analysed, there is one overriding conclusion – criminal activity in a region that is a major artery for world
