Euronaval 2018: Ten percent design difference between UK Type 26 and Lockheed CSC proposal
A Canadian-variant of the Type 26 Global Combat Ship – which has been selected as the preferred option for the Canadian Surface Combatant – would have a 10% design difference in order to rework the mast and accommodate equipment such as a solid-state phased array radar.
The C$62 billion ($47.7 billion) programme saw 22 bids submitted from a range of sources when the RfI for a qualification process was released in 2015. However, by the time of the RfP issuance in October 2016 the number subsequently dropped to three by 2017; the Lockheed Martin Canada-led team; Spain’s Navantia; and Damen.
