USMC issues armour challenge
A new stand-alone armour system to provide protection against heavy machine guns (HMGs) is being sought by the USMC.
In cooperation with the US Defense Research Projects Agency (DARPA) the USMC programme manager for advance amphibious assault (PM AAA) has issued an RFI for an ‘Armor Challenge’ to identify solutions for the HMG threat.
The armour challenge is being conducted by the Defense Systems Information Analysis Center (DSAIC) and is designed to provide ‘an opportunity for developers to obtain a rapid and impartial assessment of their existing armor designs with testing of submitted armor panels at a certified ballistics laboratory,’ PM AAA
