US donates Mercedes Atego transport trucks to Niger
The US Embassy in Niger confirmed on 27 May that the DoD has donated ten 4x4 Mercedes Atego troop transport trucks (pictured) to the Nigerien Armed Forces. It has also provided a logistics warehouse as part of the donation.
US Ambassador Eric Whitaker attended the handing over ceremony which took place at the Direction Central du Materiel.
The vehicles are estimated to have cost more than $1.4 million and are probably intended to bolster efforts by Niger to tackle terrorist insurgencies, both domestically and across the Sahel region.
