Thailand upgrades AAV7A1 vehicles for marines
The first three modernised AAV7A1 RAM/RS amphibious assault vehicles for the Royal Thai Marines Corps (RTMC) have been completed and were delivered in July, with all work done in Thailand.
Chaiseri Metal & Rubber, which has previous experience repairing RTMC AAV7A1s, won a $9.9 million contract to upgrade these vehicles to RAM/RS (Reliability, Availability and Maintainability/Rebuilt to Standard) configuration.
The process involved stripping vehicles down to their hulls and installing a 525hp Cummins VTA-903 T525 diesel engine with Twin Disc HS 255 transmission.
The suspension system features new torsion bars, support roller arms, road wheel arms and new tracks made
