Thai army unveils VL MICA air defence system
At the end of last year, the Royal Thai Army’s (RTA) Air Defence Command replaced its Spada surface-to-air missiles (SAM), which had been in service for more than 20 years, by a ground-based version of MBDA’s VL MICA.
The RTA ordered the VL MICA medium-range SAM system along with the TRML-3D/32-6 mobile air surveillance and defence radar system from Airbus Defence and Space in 2014.
That deal worth THB3.52 billion ($110.53 million) helps to protect critical areas in the Bangkok metropolitan region that are assigned under the RTA’s responsibility.
The VL MICA’s effective range is 20km at a 9km
