Taiwan trials next generation equipment

Taiwan’s Airborne Special Operations Forces have trialled the 5.56mm Multi-utilisation Special Rifle (MSR) during Exercise Han Kuang in September.

Produced by the state-owned 205th Arsenal of the Material Production Centre (MPC) the MSR is designed for close-quarters combat, urban terrain and special-forces use.

It has been developed as a replacement for the 5.56mm T91 assault rifle, the existing Republic of China Army’s (ROCA) standard weapon of which 101,162 examples were delivered from 2004-08.

The MSR has a retractable and folding buttstock that makes it extremely compact, and both long- and short-barrelled versions available. The gas-operated MSR is designed for ambidextrous
