Slovakia selects Spike LR2 ATGM
Slovakia signed a contract with Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems for delivery of an unspecified number of fifth-generation Spike LR2 ATGMs and dismounted advanced integrated control launch units.
Rafael confirmed the deal in a 5 March statement.
The contract was arranged through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) and means that Slovakia will become the third NATO member nation to use the Spike LR2.
Wolfgang Herrnberger, Managing Director of Eurospike, said: ‘This procurement by Slovakia follows past contracts of Spike Missile by Germany, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, as well as many other European countries, which has created common ATGM capabilities within Europe, serving interoperability and potentially future cross-nation mutual support’.
More than 33,000 Spike missiles have been sold globally, with over 6,000 being fired in training or combat environments.
