Russia’s Central MD receives Verba MANPADSs
Motorised rifle units of the Russian armed forces’ Central Military District in the Altaisky Krai region have taken delivery of the new Verba Man-Portable Air Defense System (MANPAD), the Russian Ministry of Defence announced on 18 December.
Verba is intended to engage tactical and strike aircraft, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. It is fitted with friend-or-foe systems, reconnaissance and control modules and air target detection systems.
The system's anti-air combat performance has been improved with the introduction of a new tri-band optical homer for the 9M336 missile and a new warhead featuring an adaptive contact/proximity fuze and increased-weight explosive.
