Qatar steps up offensive capabilities with Chinese missiles
Qatar appears to have acquired Chinese-built ballistic missiles, a move that has the potential to further escalate tensions with its Gulf neighbours.
Images of the Chinese BP-12A system - believed to be the country’s first acquisition of a ballistic missile system - surfaced on social media after Qatar’s National Day parade on 18 December.
The missile's maximum range is believed to be around 280km with a 480kg warhead.
The launch vehicle on parade is capable of carrying both the BP-12A canisters and the SY400 system, which are promoted by the China Precision Machinery Import-Export Corporation (CPMIEC).
