US donates demining equipment to Ecuador
Ecuador will increase its capabilities to protect its citizens against landmines and unexploded ordnance, after the US government donated manual demining and medical equipment.
The deliveries of metal detectors, personal protective equipment, minefield marking materials, first responder medic bags and supplies are likely to take place between this year and 2021.
This is the third time that Ecuador obtained demining aid from the US since the 2000s. Under the Humanitarian Demining Research & Development (HD R&D) programme, the country also received support from 2007-2009 and from 2010-2011.
The latest US donations will be administered by the DoD via US Southern
