Philippines selects SPYDER for GBAD
The Philippine Air Force (PAF) is believed to have selected Rafael’s Surface-to-air PYthon and DERby (SPYDER) system for its ground-based air defence requirement under Horizon 2 (spanning 2018-22) of the armed forces’ modernisation plan.
A technical working group spent several years evaluating contenders, with the Israeli system eventually getting the nod. The Department of National Defense will now begin negotiations as part of a government-to-government procurement process.
