Philippines buys truck-mounted howitzers from Israel
The Philippines has made a selection for its army’s programme to acquire 155mm self-propelled howitzers (SPH), by issuing a notice to proceed to an Israeli contender last month.
Elbit Systems will supply 12 of its ATMOS 2000 55-calibre SPHs under the military’s Horizon 2 modernisation programme, the MaxDefense Philippines blog announced.
A post-qualification inspection occurred last December, leading to a contract being signed in late January. However, it took until April for Manila to issue the notice to proceed, in part because of impositions related to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.
