Malaysian Army boosting firepower
Malaysia is to dramatically increase the firepower of its artillery units with the acquisition of its first self-propelled howitzers (SPH).
The country is understood to have accepted an Excess Defense Articles (EDA) offer from the US for M109 SPHs, with the deal now in the process of finalisation.
Malaysia does not currently have any SPHs, but it has long wanted this type of weapon system. The arrival of SPHs will also allow the Malaysian Army to set up its first armoured brigade.
