Lockheed VOSS achieves Program of Record
The Lockheed Martin Vehicle Optics Sensor System (VOSS) has been certified as Program of Record and a standard sensor package on the US Army's mine-resistant vehicles, the company announced on 10 February.
The VOSS successfully completed milestone C of the army programme, enabling it to become a Program of Record for the fiscal year 2015. Lockheed Martin has provided engineering, production and sustainment support for this programme.
The company developed and manufactures VOSS, which provides 360-degree on-the-move surveillance and explosive hazard detection capabilities to mine-resistance ambush-protected vehicles for reconnaissance and route clearance missions. It has high-resolution night vision, thermal and colour sensors in a 15-inch stabilised turret.
The VOSS has been used in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan with a 97% operational readiness rate. Over 1,100 units of this system have been deployed since 2006 with the US Marine Corps, army and NATO coalition forces.
