IDEF 2019: Next generation howitzer production on the horizon
The 155mm Firtina Next Generation (NG) Howitzer will begin live fire testing in June 2019 ahead of serial production, according to a Turkish MoD official.
The number of Firtina NGs to be manufactured could not be disclosed but the Turkish Land Forces Command already has 350 of the previous variant, which was also on display at IDEF 2019. These will not necessarily be replaced as the official said once production is complete there will be potential to retrofit the old Firtina SPH with the new capabilities.
The Firtina NG has been designed and developed by the MoD’s First Main Maintenance
