GKN to supply Ajax fuel tanks
GKN Aerospace has been contracted by General Dynamics European Land Systems to produce the fuel tanks for the UK’s Ajax armoured vehicle platform, the company announced on 1 March.
The rotationally moulded fuel tanks will be fitted with advanced self-sealing technology and explosion suppression foam to enhance vehicle and troop protection. They will be developed and produced at the GKN Aerospace fuel systems facility in Portsmouth, UK.
Gavin Wesson, senior vice president, special products group, GKN, said: ‘This is a significant contract for GKN Aerospace’s fuel systems business on an important UK Ministry of Defence programme. Our technological expertise will help to improve the safety of our troops as well as the vehicle performance in combat situations.'
Deliveries of the Ajax vehicle to British forces will run from 2016 through to 2023.
