Eurosatory 2012: ATK advances alternative warhead design

Following selection by the US Army for its Lethality Enhanced Ordnance (LEO) design, ATK is pitching the warhead to other users of the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS), MLRS and 155mm artillery.

The company was recently selected by the army to develop the alternative warhead for GMLRS, which acts as a drop-in replacement for the currently-fielded Dual-Purpose Improved Conventional Munition (DPICM) warhead and eliminates the use of submunitions.

Speaking to Shephard at the Eurosatory exhibition in Paris, ATK representatives said the new warhead provided the same flight characteristics and performance of DPICM without leaving unexploded submunitions on the battlefield.
