Defexpo 2014: Saab teams up for air defence
Saab has teamed with Bharat Forge to pursue Indian Army procurement programmes for air defence systems, the company has revealed.
Saab announced the move at the Defexpo exhibition in Delhi as the company continues trials with its RBS 70 New Generation (NG) system for the Indian Army’s Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) acquisition project.
Although the teaming arrangement will support both the RBS 70 NG and the BAMSE SRSAM offering, the VSHORAD requirement is urgent for the army. Up to 5,000 missiles and 300 sensors will be procured. The total budget for the programme has increased from $5.4 billion
