Chinese armour ‘unrivalled in Asia’
China’s military parade in Tiananmen Square on 3 September featured the very latest armoured vehicles in the ranks of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
A phalanx of 22 ZTZ-99A (Type 99A) main battle tanks (MBT) led the way, pursued by 18 ZBD-04A infantry fighting vehicles (IFV). This was the ZTZ-99A’s public debut, with its immediate predecessor the ZTZ-99 having participated in the 2009 version of the parade.
Technical specifications of the tank are unknown, but it participated in the ‘Peace Mission’ exercise in August 2014. Mao Ming, NORINCO’s chief designer of the tank, said in an interview that the ZTZ-99A
