Brazil revamps Amazon security forces

The Brazilian Army’s Amazon Military Command (AMC) is expected to increase in size under transformation plans that aim to increase security in the remote jungle regions.

The command is expected to grow from four brigades to five, with the new brigade to be established in the southern Brazilian state of Acre, which borders with Peru and Bolivia.

In addition the army plans to more than double the number of special border platoons (PEF) from 28 to 54 as the existing number is insufficient in providing security.
