Belarus completes Polonez testing
A new-generation multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) firing guided rockets has been commissioned in service with the Belarus military.
The Polonez system has completed its state testing effort on 10 June 2016 and the first systems are set for delivery to the Belarus Army’s 336th Missile Artillery Brigade by September, replacing the Soviet-era Smerch MLRS.
Belarussian President, Alexander Lukashenko announced that among the main tasks of the Polonez system is to provide deterrence and maintain the independence of the country. It is part of a wider equipment upgrade effort.
