AAD2014: BAE launches new RG21 series APC
BAE Systems Land Systems South Africa (LSSA) unveiled a prototype 4x4 APC named the RG21 at the AAD exhibition in Pretoria on 17 September.
The concept behind the vehicle is that it fits into the lower end of the spectrum of the RG series of vehicles making it more affordable than other MRAP-type variants but retaining the mobility and protection.
A spokesperson for the company told reporters that MRAPs are large, heavy and costly and that affordability issues needed to be addressed. The RG21 is ‘less than half the cost’ of an MRAP, the spokesperson said.
