Russia orders new patrol ship
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSS) has ordered a new Arctic patrol ship to assist in its northern operations with the vessel expected to be delivered at the end of October 2018.
Costing around Roubles 1.76 billion (approx. $28 million) the Project 22120 Purga-class vessel is tailored for patrolling icy waters and is able to cut through 0.5m of sea ice with its strengthened hull. The vessel was designed by Petrobalt and is due to be built by the Almaz shipyard in St Petersburg.
Displacing 1,066t the vessel has length of 71m, beam of 10.5m and draught of 3.5m.
