Keel laid for future USS Daniel Inouye
The keel has been laid for the US Navy's future Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Daniel Inouye at the General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (BIW) shipyard, NAVSEA announced on 14 May.
The vessel will be built in the Flight IIA configuration with the Aegis Baseline 9 combat system which includes integrated air and missile defence capability. The system will deliver quick reaction time, high firepower and increased electronic countermeasures capability for anti-air warfare.
The multi-mission Arleigh Burke destroyers provide the navy with undersea, surface, strike and ballistic missile defences, along with increased capabilities in anti-submarine warfare, command and control and anti-surface warfare.
