DIMDEX 2018: New machine guns for Cardigan Bay's commandos

The UK’s Royal Marine Commando's stationed on board the RFA Cardigan Bay are set to receive new heavy machine guns (HMG) as part of their weapons package.

The Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines that are stationed on board the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) ship already utilised Mk44 machine guns for vessel protection but this is set to be replace by a .50cal HMG during 2018, Shephard has learned.

It is understood that that the new HMGs will come from left over equipment from previous engagements such as Afghanistan.

The Royal Marines also utilise the standard issue SA80 assault rifle,
