Telephonics wins IFF interrogator system contract
Telephonics has received a contract from Saab for its SFF-44A Small Form Factor Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) interrogator systems, it announced on 7 June.
Saab will integrate the SFF-44A system on its ground-based Giraffe AMB (Agile Multi-Beam) radar platform. The SFF-44A is lighter and smaller than Telephonics’ AN/UPX-44A IFF interrogator, and operates at a reduced transmitter power while retaining its key capabilities, according to the company. It provides a surveillance picture that supports the user in making tactical decisions to protect against air threats.
Telephonics will manufacture the SFF-44A interrogators at its Long Island production facilities. Deliveries are expected to commence in early 2017.
Kevin McSweeney, chief operating officer, Telephonics, said: ‘Telephonics SFF-44A is extremely well suited for the rugged environmental operations of the Giraffe AMB and will support the end user to effectively manage an ever-changing air surveillance picture.
‘Telephonics looks forward to strengthening our relationship with Saab, following the integration of our industry-leading IFF technologies with Saab’s world class radar systems.’
