Australia is looking to improve its presence in space with a focus on communications and creating a dedicated segment of its defence forces committed to the domain.
The Russian MoD has revealed that on 1 December 2018 the so-called combat-experimental alert duty deployed its first ground-based combat laser system.
Known as the Peresvet, the first delivery of the combat laser to the Russian military was made in 2017, while in 2018 the personnel operating the system completed training at the Mozhaysky Air and Space Defence Academy in St Petersburg.
No information is available about the location where the first combat unit equipped with the Peresvet has been deployed.
