Lockheed Martin has announced that it will continue supplying the APY-9 radar for the US Navy’s E-2D Hawkeye aircraft programme under a contract from Northrop Grumman.

The contract is worth over $600 million for production of 24 additional APY-9 radars over the five years from 2021-2025.

The latest radar order will include Lockheed Martin’s new Advanced Radar Processor. The APY-9 radar is an Ultra High Frequency surveillance system that provides both mechanical and electronic scanning capabilities designed to detect smaller targets in greater numbers at  longer range, particularly in coastal regions and over land.
