Japan developing a counter-IED system

Because the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) does not have any vehicles able to remotely detect IEDs, the Ground Systems Research Center (GSRC) of the Acquisition, Technology and Logistics has been developing a counter-IED system.

This system uses a combination of microwave, millimeter wave and laser radars. The former detects buried IEDs, while the millimeter wave radar finds devices on the surface. The laser radar scans objects of interest since it offers higher resolution than the millimeter wave type. The system scans in a forward direction while driving.

The C-IED system possesses a database of information, plus it adopts deep-learning
