Australia is looking to improve its presence in space with a focus on communications and creating a dedicated segment of its defence forces committed to the domain.
The US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has awarded an eight-year, single-award IDIQ contract to Harris to supply its precision approach radar (PAR) to the country's army, air force and navy, the company announced on 17 May.
The contract, which has a ceiling value of $96 million, will see Harris supply its PAR systems to upgrade the military's air traffic management and precision approach capabilities. The new systems will mark an upgrade to current tri-service critical radar infrastructure.

Harris PAR systems are currently used by the US military and over 20 ally nations.
