Harris Corporation unveils MBC-100 mobile subscriber
Harris Corporation, an international communications and information technology company, today introduced the Harris MBC-100 mobile subscriber device for high-bandwidth applications over 700 MHz LTE networks. The MBC-100 provides first responders with the capability for simultaneous use of high-bandwidth mobile applications, including secure streaming live video feeds, access to public safety databases, mobile productivity applications and geo-location information.
"The MBC-100 is a truly unique device for 700 MHz LTE networks that enables a number of mission-critical applications for first responders," said George Helm, vice president, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. "The MBC-100 sets a new industry standard for enhanced throughput and mobile vehicle connectivity over LTE networks so that first responders can maximize the potential of LTE network communications to their fullest."
The Harris MBC-100 delivers up to 18 Mbps of service to LTE network subscribers for high-bandwidth applications. It also delivers 128-bit encryption for secure voice and data communication while utilizing industry-standard 3GPP Release 8 telecommunications requirements for 700 MHz LTE networks. These requirements mean that the MBC-100 is capable of advanced LTE modulations including 2x2 Multiple Input/Multiple Output (MIMO) that allows the device to boost network performance by utilizing two antennas for the transmitter and receiver.
To support location-based services and situational awareness functionality -- both high-demand applications for law enforcement -- the MBC-100 includes an internal GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver with a customized user interface that provides access to the subscriber's position. The client is also built to rugged public safety requirements and features a mechanically hardened case that is both water-resistant and safe from electrical interference.
The MBC-100 connects easily to existing vehicle-mounted computers through a single USB 2.0 connector for both power and data; an optional external power connector can be used if needed. The MBC-100 includes Windows® and Linux drivers, which allow existing data applications to establish network connectivity through the device.
