Harris Corporation, an international communications and information technology company, has received a $4.7 million order from the Government of Canada for Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radios and RF-7800B tactical satellite communication systems. The systems will provide Canada's armed forces with next-generation tactical communications in support of network-enabled applications such as video and collaborative chat.

Harris is providing Canada with both the AN/PRC-117G wideband radio system and RF-7800B Broadband Global Area Networking (BGAN) satellite terminals. Integration of the AN/PRC-117G with the Harris RF-7800B terminals will provide Canadian personnel with unique end-to-end, Type-1 secure beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) wideband communications connectivity. The order was received by Harris in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011.

"The AN/PRC-117G and RF-7800B will provide Canada's military with new communications capabilities that will lead to enhanced command and control and situational awareness," said Andy Start, president, international business unit, Harris RF Communications. "This is another illustration of Harris growing capability to deliver reliable, rugged and secure systems that address challenging requirements for communications. These systems are backed by continuous innovation and outstanding support from Harris personnel around the world."

The AN/PRC-117G radio provides warfighters with unprecedented situational awareness of the battlefield by enabling applications such as streaming video, simultaneous voice and data feeds, collaborative chat, and connectivity to secure networks. The wideband networking capabilities of the AN/PRC-117G give warfighters critical real-time information through a man-portable radio that is significantly smaller and lighter than previous manpack radios.

Harris RF Communications is the leading global supplier of secure radio communications and embedded high-grade encryption solutions for military, government and commercial organizations. The company's Falcon family of software-defined tactical radio systems encompasses manpack, handheld and vehicular applications. Falcon III is the next generation of radios supporting the US military's Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) requirements, as well as network-centric operations worldwide. Harris RF Communications is also a leading supplier of assured communications systems and equipment for public safety, utility and transportation markets -- with products ranging from the most advanced IP voice and data networks to portable and mobile single- and multiband radios.
