General Dynamics expands MUOS radio testing
General Dynamics has added over-the-air Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) radio testing at its MUOS radio test laboratory in Scottsdale, Arizona, the company announced on 12 February.
The over-the-air radio testing capability will allow radio products from the lab to make calls to an orbiting MUOS satellite for evaluating data and voice performance. Companies can also use the simulated MUOS ground station network at the facility to test their product performance.
The General Dynamics MUOS test lab is one of two US Navy-qualified labs to help vendors evaluate the performance of their products on the MUOS system.
Chris Marzilli, president, General Dynamics Mission Systems, said: 'In addition to offering the test lab, we have developed the MUOS waveform and built the MUOS ground station system that both connects personnel with the MUOS network and manages MUOS satellite operations.'
The first step to testing radio connectivity is adding the MUOS waveform developed by General Dynamics to the vendor-supplied test radios. This waveform is necessary to connect with the network. Once added, the radio can call the network and transmit the call to a General Dynamics-built MUOS ground station that determines the satellites and ground stations to be used to connect the radio calls.
