DSEI 2019: Collins Aerospace Systems launches SATCOM alternative

Collins Aerospace Systems’ new Universal Radio Group (URG)-IV wideband High Frequency (HF) communications system is aimed at land and naval customers who require a cheaper alternative to SATCOM, the company has told Shephard.

URG-IV was officially launched at the DSEI 2019 in London in mid-September. The ground station comprises Collins’ new RT-2200A wideband HF radio and PA-2010 1kW power amplifier, housed together with other equipment in a moveable package. 

The system has been launched primarily for the land market, because it is aimed at being placed on a fixed site like a shelter, said Laurent Soyer, business development
