DSA 2016: Taiwan radios make waves

Taiwan is not renowned as a major defence exporter, partly because of political reasons, but one indigenous company, ZyXEL, is showing its wares.

ZyXEL specialises in radios, and some equipment it was promoting at Defence Services Asia 2016 stemmed from an ongoing project to create for an African customer a customised family of software-defined radios (SDR).

The Taiwanese firm is now seeking other customers in mainly Asia and Africa for its technology. The family includes tactical handheld, manpack and vehicular radios that offer transmission speeds of 256Kbps, with development of this project kicking off last year.
