Kongsberg contracted to develop remote control communications terminal
The development of the THOR Remote Control Terminal (RCT) has been linked to the delivery of other elements of the THOR communications system such as vehicle radio modules.
DRS Technologies Canada will provide tactical integrated communications systems for the Royal New Zealand Navy's ANZAC-class frigates, it has been announced.
The company was awarded the subcontract in support of a communications modernisation contract by prime contractor Lockheed Martin Canada.
Under the subcontract, DRS will provide all internal tactical and secure voice switching systems and terminals. It will provide its Shipboard Integrated Communications System (SHINCOM 3100) central switching unit, public address server, helicopter audio distribution system, recorder storage units, outdoor terminals, console dual screen terminals, jackboxes and ancillaries and the Avaya G450 PABX phone system.
Steve Zuber, vice president and general manager, DRS Technologies Canada, said: 'This is a tremendous opportunity for DRS to deliver the SHINCOM 3100 system to the New Zealand Navy, which leverages the existing installed base with the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Australian Navy and the US Navy.
'This programme will allow these navies to share key interoperability, technology and applications, ensuring that SHINCOM 3100 remains the premier internal communications system for years to come.'
DRS Technologies will produce and deliver two shipsets, the first of which is expected to be delivered in early 2016.
SHINCOM 3100 is the latest generation in shipboard communications switch technology which provides reliable, red/black secure tactical communications for navy operators.
