China snares Su-35 fighters…finally

After protracted negotiations, Russia has finally inked a deal with China for the sale of 24 Sukhoi Su-35 multirole fighters.

Sergey Chemezov, the CEO of Rostec, said lengthy negotiations had concluded in a contract to supply 24 Su-35 multipurpose fighters to China, according to comments quoted by the Russian daily newspaper Kommersant on 19 November.

The transaction is valued at more than US$2 billion, which equates to $83 million plus per aircraft for the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). The latest sale comes on the heels of China’s purchase of the Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile (SAM) system.
