China responds to ‘unwarranted criticisms’
On the final day of the Shangri-La Dialogue, China finally got the opportunity to officially rebut the criticisms that had been thrown at it during the course of this year's meeting.
In a carefully choreographed, but apparent deviation from his prepared remarks, Lt Gen Wang Guanzhong, deputy chief for the general staff department of Peoples Liberation Army, said that he felt he needed to respond to the ‘unwarranted criticisms’ made by both US defence secretary Chuck Hagel and Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe.
