AMD grabs funding to develop ink-based technology
UK-based SME Advanced Material Development (AMD) revealed on 9 December that it has secured £125,000 ($167,130) in government funding to develop and exploit technology to improve complex, conventional and novel weapons technologies.
This contract for AMD, awarded under the five-year Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) Weapons Sector Research Framework (WSRF), will fund early development of its proprietary carbon-based ink technology.
Research in the UK and elsewhere shows this nanomaterial could be applied to soldier uniforms to help integrate wearable technologies.
‘These highly conductive inks also have the potential to offer significant benefits in size, weight and cost reduction across a whole range of systems,’ AMD claimed.
