Viper gains first export customer

Pakistan continues to build up its attack helicopter capability and is now to receive new-build aircraft from the US, according to a contract awarded to Bell Helicopter on 25 August. 

The contract, worth $581 million, actually covers a total of 15 Lot 12 UH-1Y Venom, 19 Lot 12 AH-1Z helicopters and a single Lot 13 UH-1Y for both the US Marine Corps (USMC) and Pakistan.

While it is unclear how many of the aforementioned AH-1Zs will be sold to Islamabad, what is known is that 10% of the overall contract value is allocated to Pakistan.
