USAF Ospreys to deploy to Japan in 2017

The Pentagon has announced it will begin deploying its first squadron of Bell Boeing CV-22 Ospreys to Japan in 2017.

The specially modified tiltrotor aircraft will be used to support US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) personnel.

Three aircraft will reach Japan in the second half of 2017, according to the Department of Defense (DoD), while seven more are scheduled to arrive by 2021. The CV-22s will be stationed at Yokota Air Base, a joint Japanese-US facility in Tokyo that houses the headquarters of United States Forces Japan.
