Thales and Lockheed lock horns over Crowsnest

The two manufacturers competing for the Royal Navy’s (RN) new helicopter-based early warning radar system have submitted their bids to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), ahead of final selection later this year.

Lockheed Martin UK Integrated Systems (LMUK IS) and Thales UK submitted bids in late January for the MoD’s Crownest programme, which aims to replace the capability currently provided by the Sea King Mk7 Airborne Surveillance and Control (SKASaC) platform.

The last SKASaC is expected to be retired by 2018 and replaced with Crowsnest in 2019

All 30 RN Merlin MK2 helicopters will be modified to receive
