The Spanish Army Aviation (FAMET) and the German armed forces have selected Thales rockets to equip their Tiger helicopter fleets, the company announced on 13 February.
Spain has ordered 1000 70mm/2.75” rockets, while Germany has ordered 10,000.
The rocket will complete the weapon system of the Spanish Army Aviation's Tiger HAD-E helicopter. The system comprises four light weight composite rocket pods, two of 19 tubes (FZ225) combined with two of seven tubes (FZ233), able to carry a mixed loading of practice and high explosive warhead.
Spain has used Thales' Induction Rocket System on its HAP configuration Tigers since 2009. With this order, the force will now operate the latest version of the 70mm NATO standard rocket on its HAD Tigers.
The German armed forces will use the rockets for training purposes for its UH Tiger units. The rocket will feature a modified rocket motor FZ90 MOD.4 with reduced debris.
The 70mm/2.75” rocket offers a high level of safety and efficiency on both helicopters and combat fixed wing aircraft.
